I can’t think of a better place to spend Valentine’s Day weekend than Northumberland.
It’s got some lovely hotels and B&Bs with owners who want nothing more than to make their guests’ stay a happy and comfortable one.
Then of course this county has beautiful beaches, rolling hills and wide open spaces. So if it’s a luxury, comfort and seclusion you’re after, Northumberland is the place.
Here are some ideas to help you plan a romantic break. If you’re drawn to the sea, consider staying at the Warkworth House Hotel, not far from Alnwick. The hotel is offering a two-night break for two on Feb. 13 or 14, or 14 & 15. For dinner, bed and breakfast in a standard double room the cost is £270 room, and for a superior £299. A half bottle of champagne and chocolates are included in the offer.
In the beautiful Medieval village of Blanceland, not far from Hexham, consider the Lord Crewe Arms, dating back to 1165. Enjoy the comfort of a roaring fire, and take in the fine views of moorland.
Between Feb. 12 & 13 and 13 & 14, stay three nights and receive a 15 per cent discount. A two-night romantic break for two includes dinner, breakfast in the morning, a four-course Valentine’s menu and a complementary bottle of Cava, and then breakfast the next day.
Further north in Border Reiver country you can stay at the impressive Otterburn Tower Hotel. Stay for any two days over the Valentine weekend and enjoy a relaxing holiday. All the rooms are en-suite – some with four posters.
Otterburn Tower uses local produce for its food – proven by its recent ‘AA’ Two Rosette award. Prices from £90 per person per night including a la carte dinner and champagne. First bookings will receive an upgrade to a four poster room!
In the heart of Northumberland lies the historic town of Alnwick, home to Alnwick Castle and The Alnwick Garden. Here you can stay at The White Swan Hotel, a place full of surprises, both historic and modern.
Enjoy two nights dinner, bed & breakfast and also champagne, chocolates and a rose in your room on arrival. On the Feb. 12 there will be music from resident pianist and an Italian themed four-course meal. On the hotel will stage a love-themed gala. The cost is £130 per person for the two-night break.
There are many other offers on accommodation or dinner across the county. Check out individual business websites and www.visitnorthumberland.com for ideas, and have a happy Valentine’s Day!
